Many, many kisses from London!
I am thoroughly enjoying my time here in the U.K (ahem, shopping), I have many stories to share when I get home next week. For now I want to share a few of my tips for "dressing like a Londoner" for those of you who are experiencing your own travel adventures this summer (or beyond). The whole wonderful reason I am in London is to visit my dear old dad who works here. This means I am doing most of my sightseeing (ahem, shopping) and adventuring solo. Because of this, I want to look as inconspicuous as possible (to avoid you know, robbery and getting ripped off) Not that its hard to want to blend in with the lovely people of London, they are so fabulous. I have come up with a few ways to blend in and act like you've lived there your whole life. So, without further ado...
How to Act Like a Local
- DO buy and wear at least one item with a peter pan collar (like my new fabulous black shirt)
- DO wear bright lipstick. Re-apply often
- DO wear your hair in its natural state-it rains a lot here. Much easier to go with the flow.
- DO add vintage accessories.
- DO NOT order a "coffee". Europeans don't drink filtered coffee, dead giveaway that your a tourist. I recommend a flat white. Delicious.
- DO order fish and chips. No like seriously, do it.
- DO soak up sunny patios and read a good book
- DO NOT open your map in a very public place. Plan your routes ahead of time.
- DO NOT carry around a bag that says "this bag contains lots of valuable things one might cary with them while on a vacation somewhere".
- DO carry around a fashionable everyday bag that in fact does hold all of the above things but that is passable as an everyday usage bag.
Alright, that last one is for safety, I would hate to loose anything important or irreplaceable while overseas.
Those are just a few tidbits from midway through my trip. Although the most important thing i have learned is that Londoners are very, very fashionable. It is so inspiring, I do have to remember not to buy an entire new wardrobe! Have you ever found yourself traveling in a new and very fashionable city but don't know where to start shopping? Well, have I got a trick for that: follow the fashionable people. See what bags they are carrying and what stores they go into. Real life: I used to do that in high school when I was bored of what my classmates were wearing. So if you and I ever find each other in the same city and I happen to be casually following you, please do take it as a compliment. As far as London goes I am loving the oxfords, red lipstick and blazers. Well! I must be off! Lots of sightseeing and fashion trends to discover.
I hope that you guys are enjoying all your summer adventures and travel excitement!
Cheerio Darlings!
